Who uses our SEO audit?
This service offers a jargon-free, plain English report written by a SEO specialist (a real person, not a computer) and is popular with private individuals and small to medium sized businesses who want to:
- Check the work of another company they have hired and ensure on page optimisation has been carried out correctly.
- Understand the scale of the work required (in plain English) to optimise their website before hiring a company or to help them compare quotes from various companies.
- See how well optimised a competitors website is (we can audit any website, not just one that you own or run).

Many websites go to the top of Search Engine results simply because their on page SEO is correct and so crawlers like Google, Yahoo and Bing have more confidence in their content than other websites.
A human audit
Your audit will be carried out by a human, not a computer, who will consider your website within the context of your sector and it's competition.
Computer driven audits can be helpful but are also limited because they:
- Can make suggestions that are good for search engines but bad for human users. In the long term if real users spend short periods of time on a website then it's rankings will suffer.
- Cannot consider individual pages within the wider context of a website as a whole.
- Cannot make the same recommendations that an experienced SEO practitioner can.
- Are sometimes based on someone's theory rather than reality.
- Can quickly go out of date as search engine policies change.
Why is a SEO audit important?
Most webmaster make the same mistake. They build a website and then start chasing links believing this is the way to high rankings in the Search Engine Results Pages (SERPs).
But this is only half the story.
If a search engine like Google, Yahoo or Bing is not confident that a page is about Subject X this will effect it's rankings, even when backlinks exist.
A search engine optimisation audit tells you how clearly the search engines see your content and so how much confidence they will have in your website.
A website that has been correctly optimised 'on page' can get to the top of the search results with few or no backlinks.
What is in a SEO audit?
Your audit report will cover all aspects of on page search engine optimisation and flag what is urgent, what would be desirable and what should not be changed.
This includes:
- Evaluating your chosen keywords and phrases and, where necessary, proposing alternatives
- Checking the domain name for relevancy and age
- Sub domain suggestions where possible
- Checking page titles and meta tags
- Checking for shared server issues which may attract search engine penalties
- Identifing any canonicalization issues - pages being seen as http://www.thesite.com and http://thesite.com which dilutes ranking
- Checking HTML and CSS coding for errors which may attract search engine penalties
- Checking code/visible text ratios
- Identifying code or text that could be mistaken for spamming (even if unintentional) and may attract search engine penalties
- Identifying images which are not correctly optimised for fast loading
- Checking page URLs to ensure they are search engine friendly
- Identifing cross linking opportunities within the website
- Verifying breadcrumb usage
- Checking for keyword density by page and by section
- Checking H1 and H2 tags are used to their best effect
- Identifing spelling and grammar errors which may affect ranking
- Edit links which are not descriptive (e.g. 'click here' and 'more information')
- Measuring page loading times that may attract search engine penalities
- Considering if javascript of flash elements are affecting how the website is indexed or ranked
- Verifying the existence of a robots.txt and sitemap.xml file (correctly formatted)
- Other recommendations that come to light during the audit

SEO audit costs
We charge a flat fee of $300 / £200 / €200 (inc. VAT) to audit the first five pages of your website.
Due to the repetitive nature of websites (e.g. the header area, the foot bar, sidemenus, etc) the first five pages will usually cover 80-90% of your issues.
Please note we count dynamic pages as one (e.g. mysite.com/products.php?type=tv and mysite.com/products.php?type=radio) are one page.
Further audits going deeper into the website are available. Visit our SEO Quote page to request a costing.
Timeframe
We will email you to confirm receipt of funds and your audit report will then be ready within 10 working days.
